The SSD (860 EVO) is actually big enough with 2TB.

I will only upgrade the motherboard, RAM and CPU in 1-2 years, when PCIe 4.0 is established. ;)

A better graphics card is at the momeent not on the horizon due to component shortages. :/

I'm still "measuring" FPS with NVIDIA's FrameView at the moment, currently about 30-40 FPS at 3840x2160 @ 60Hz 4:4:4.

(middle settings, zero traffic, no clouds, full internet data, 40 Mbps)

    But I'm still optimizing...

    :)

My personal solution/fix for CTDs (crash to desktop)

    Short version:

    - Put the pagefile (pagefile.sys) on a big SSD, the file must be able to "breathe"!

    - The OS should manage it!

    Long version:

For me as a newbie the FS2020 crashed ALWAYS for days and I read web pages & forums for hours.

    My system:

    - Intel Core i7-4770K, no overclocking, Z87, 16 GB RAM DDR3, AMD Radeon 5700 XT, Win 10 Pro 20H2, all updates, incl. latest drivers of course!

    - Partition C is only for Windows, ~20 GB free, from ~80 GB

    - Partition D on same SSD, for all games, ~400 GB free

    - Addon control is done with "MSFS AddonsLinker":

    https://flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker

    - FluSi folder on D:\Games\FS2020\, subfolder "Official" has ~95 GB.

    - There I also created a "CACHE", "Community" and "Mods" folder

(in the cache folder is the "ROLLINGCACHE.CCC" file)

    - about 15 MB in the folder created by FS2020:

    D:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-1234567890-1234567890-1234567890-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\ ...

What all have I tried with barely noticeable success:

    - Brought Visual C++2015-2019 to latest version 14.29.30037 (x64 & x86).

    - Rolling Cache set to 8 GB (half memory!)

    - ZERO Manual Cache! I deleted the file "MANUALCACHE.CCC" all where I could find them!

My problem was, that the "pagefile.sys" on C became so big, that the space on this partiton was not enough, therefore the crash (CTD). Once when I had chosen the Rolling Cache and the Manual Cache much too big, I found out that the "pagefile.sys" on D grew up to 50 GB! So no wonder the one on C had no more space.

    Conclusion:

Put the "pagefile.sys", ONLY ONE VERSION, on your largest SSD partition, managed by Win10, with e.g. at least 100 GB free space. But if you cache e.g. 150 GB manually, the "pagefile.sys" file will be 150 GB too, so always leave enough space!

Since then I have no more crashes!

    :)

So again with disabled DEM => i.e. all vanilla MSFS 2020:

    Matterhorn_by_zkhcohen:

    - Sits correct, no borders:

    Matterhorn_by_NikPrist:

    - Still little too high, sparkling borders, and some flashing polygons:

PS: Native 4K screenshots are not possible to embed in this forum?

    Hi all,

I just want to share with you the funny floating Matterhorn.

    Yes, I tried both:

    https://flightsim.to/file/7564/matterhorn from zkhcohen

    and

    https://flightsim.to/file/197/matterhorn-mountain by NikPrist,

both look awesome, but always little "doubled". ;)

    Yes, it happens with

    https://flightsim.to/file/15382/cgl-dem-switzerland

    OR

    https://flightsim.to/file/1470…n-data-from-lidar-imaging

Next try I will disable both DEM again, i.e. vanilla only again (buuh! ;) and will see how it looks then...

    :)

    Have a nice weekend!

Feel free to share here also your best Matterhorn scenery in 4K...
