Grass popping through my apron

What am i doing wrong? Created an apron, set surface to grass, excluded inside (see properties) AND STILL THE GRASS OF THE UNDERLYING SURFACE COMES THROUGH. Tearing my hair out, been searching for days how to solve this.

with a Grassy texture the 3d grass will stay
with a asphalt, concrete, gravel etc. texture, the 3d grass will get deleted

I used a mud texture and that acts the same as a grassy texture. Added concrete in a new apron underneath the mud and now the grass is gone.
