I don't know where to go - Help, my mods aren't working

  • I'm trying to install a few mods, but they just don't work - like i didn't even install them. I've put in over 5 hours trying to solve this and am totally out of ideas.

    So far I have:

    - Installed a few mods and put them in a desktop folder for easy access

    - Placed them into C:\Users\BrieH\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community

    - Searched youtube, forums, FAQ pages, discord, and every other place I can imagine for answers to this, trying every obscure trick to see if it works.

    - Searched my entire system for everything labeled 'Community'

    - Found a couple folders related to MSFS called 'Community', placed all mods into each folder individually, restarting MSFS each time

    - Turned on MSFS 'dev mode', trying to go to the 'Watched Bases' tab, but that tab just doesn't exist for me.

    - Reinstalled the game twice (taking 2 days each time) once from steam, and once from the microsoft store. (Tried each method and trick on each install)

    - Exhausted everything that I can think of to make them work

But the mods just don't show up. Nothing in content manager, no planes in my hanger.

Please help me, I know there's a solution, I just can't find it!

    Thank you

  • Um, you can't put RAR files into the community directory. You have to unpack them first.

If you don't want the hassle of unpacking each addon, then can I recommend one of the addon managers available from this site. MFS Addon Collector (https://flightsim.to/file/8349/mfs-addon-locator) works just fine for me, and it gives you a number of features that you might find useful, such as the ability to QA check each of your addons against flight sim before you try to use them.

  • It makes no difference which version that you are using, .rar, .zip & .7z archives all need to be unzipped before you can use them in the community folder. In the image above, there are two .rar files in the community folder, and that's a no no.

John, was not the zipped files I was referring to, my microsoft store community folder is........

    C:\Users\joeblow\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community

So I assumed his was the path in steam.

Have a look at this [MSFS 2020] How to easily find the Community Folder in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - YouTube

  • The image that you posted showed the contents of:

    In the community folder is:

    so far, so good.

    Followed by:

And THOSE are the ones that CANNOT work in your Community folder, because they are still archived, and you can only put unarchived folders into the Community folder if you expect them to work.

Now, unless you posted an image that does not reflect your problem folder, THAT is your FIRST problem!

As for none of them showing up, are any/all of them compliant with SU 5 of the Sim update? (for info on that, see )

Here's what I can tell you from our site:

    • F22 - Certainly the F22, if you got it from us, is still marked as non-compatible with SU 5 of the Sim, which occurred on or about 29 July.
    • Alpha Jet: We have the Alphajet, which has been marked as SU 5 compatible without recompilation,(https://www.flightsim.to/file/…lpha-jet-dev-version-0-25) so if it doesn't work, please get back to me and let me know - so that the Mods can reverse that flag
    • JW1 We have the free version of the JW1 on this site (https://flightsim.to/file/19306/jetpack-jw1-skytraveler) that IS SU 5 compliant, and was made so at the last upload, which was on August 29, so you'd best check to ss whether that is the version you have got, and if not, discard the old on and download that one (If you have the payware version, see if the supplier has issued an updated version that it SU 5 compatible, instead)
    • FA-18 is payware - go to the distributor / rights owner for info regarding that model. There is no indication on SimMarket that any patch has been issued that I can see
    • beef3d - cannot identify what aircraft than might refer to - sorry.
    • legacy-vcockpits-instruments can be found at https://www.nexusmods.com/micr…mulator/mods/117?tab=docs , and as a legacy airplane importer it appears that it is only a precursor to other activities. Go back and RFM for that one, plus check if it's been updated to SU 5 compatibility
    • virtual anarchy studios - sorry, you're on your own there - I visited their site some days ago, and was underimpressed with their attention to detail and their apparent ability to follow through. Only my opinion, but...

As for the other two - check out their pedigree, and make sure that they are SU 5 compliant.

Here's some more boring stuff that may help you (or not)

This one suggests that there shouldn't be any problem with scenery, spells out what it's all about, and tries to give all and sundry a heads up that SU 5 was/is a problem, especially for aircraft mods:

This one attempts to show you the easiest way to identify whether an addon has been signed off as SU 5 compatible or not:

OK, well I'm getting writer's cramp about now, so go through and understand all this, and come back to me if you still have problems (and also come back and tell us whether your problems are/were solved, or not, or at least understood.

    Good luck

  • Hi,

What you have to find is your Community folder, which is where you put all of your add ons.

Unfortunately for us, there are several possible locations for this folder, depending on where you purchased tour copy of MSFS 2020.

This article explains where it should be located.

    Good luck.

  • This can really get confusing. Most mods are free - must be unzipped and the "correct" unzipped file only placed into the correct 'community' folder. I say correct community folder as I know from first hand experience that some "bad" install may create a community folder on the windows explorer list. That is not the correct community folder. The correct one is at the end of the path that you have specified. If you have "several community folders" I would suggest that you delete the ones you find invalid. You may place a shortcut on your desktop to link to the correct community folder for easy access.
Also, all the mods on this sight are free. Many times, and not to confuse the issue, but you may if you wish donate to the creator. However, some of these mods REQUIRE that you purchase the main aircraft title in question to have the additional mods function "at all". This is explained in all cases just under the big picture of the mod in question on this sight.

If you have mods that are NOT working then they are in the wrong community folder OR you need to purchase the title in question and install IT first then slide in the free mods.

This being said, having the mods even in the community folder many times also says that they may not work as expected, but they should certainly show up in one fashion or another. I myself have found increasingly better to reboot after being in the community folder. I have never seen that suggested anywhere else; but for me it seems that things just work better after being in there to reboot after, especially after removing or dropping off a mod. Hope this may help you....not much else can be said I don't think.... ahhhh yes there is one more tid bit......... must also now be SU5 compatible <X

  • From the thread I quoted:

    For the Windows Store install:

    C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Local\Packages\ Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\

    For the Steam install:

    C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Local\Packages\

    Microsoft.FlightDashboard_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\

Important: Windows 10 by default hides the “AppData” folder, so you will have to go to “View” in the menu of File Explorer, and select “Hidden items” so as to see it.

    For the Custom install:

If you happened to use a custom location for your Flight Simulator installation, then proceed there.

In my case it was: F:\Flight Simulator\Community\

Bonjour, ce programme (fait par un autre utilisateur) devrait pouvoir vous aider à localiser le dossier:

    https://flightsim.to/file/1984…-my-damn-community-folder

Il suffira de décompresser le fichier à l'interieur d'un dossier et de lancer l'executable.

Hi, this program (made by another user) should help you to find the correct folder:
