So I DL'd an asset pack.....

  • Hey guys I've just started learning how to use the SDK to create custom sceneries for Helimed type flights and its going ok so far. However I've seen some asset packs I'd like to use and bring into my scenes. How/Where to I place these assets so I can view them in the SDK and add them into my custom scenes? At the moment they are just in my community folder as I have some custom POI's for helimed stuff set in Bavaria that required them to work.

    Thanks Cutty

  • You can place the libraries inside your community folder, then they should be available in the scenery object list. (Place them in the community folder before starting MSFS)

So that would mean you have to tell downloaders of your scenery that they also must have those dependencies too. Then they'll need to go and download them if they haven't already. Is there any way (without breaching the original copyright of course) of including them in your file so the downloader doesnt have to worry about dependencies? Theyll automatically be installed if they aren't there already?

  • I think that most visitors here will download libraries from here as soon as they come out (or updated), so as long as there are links in your download page, they won't need to do anything extra.

If you are going to distribute them elsewhere, you'll have to include links to them, of course, because you won't know whether your market already has them or not.

Libraries are meant to be centralized assets for the purposes of reusing the same objects in multiple sceneries, so they have to be separately added, otherwise it defies the purposes of being a central set of assets.

This is a common acceptable thing to do, so you can simply indicate the required libraries on your scenery download packages (and on Flightsim.to you can indicate that they are requirements for the scenery), so that people can access it. This way it also helps the creators of the libraries themselves get more exposure as you have to access their pages to download the librairies.
