AI traffic

  • In FSX I had a lot of AI flights showing thanks to WoA, AI Flight Planner and other such add-ons. To the best of my knowledge there are no such add-ons for MSFS 2020 and I have been wondering whether it is workable to use repaints such as those on this site and to create AI traffic using the default aircraft and downloads such as the A330.

My hesitation in undertaking this project is whether aircraft such as these would overwhelm the program because of the unnecessary details such as panels included with them.

Ha anyone tried this with or without success?

  • At the moment the only plane really to get into the AI traffic is the A320 Neo and that is with liveries used from on this site yes. You have the aircraft.cfg config in the liveries which if you add a 2nd part at the bottom it will include that certain livery to be automatically placed around airports and air traffic.

  • Thanks for the reply - I guess it's a case of 'suck it and see' as far as the impact on performance.

Well, so far I have around 77 A320 Neo Liveries and I have edited them all to have the AI traffic and I have my traffic in the settings set to 60 which is pretty decent. I have edited it so that the AI model is the lesser high in poly model and therefore from a distance, you can see it clearly is what airline etc, but nearer you get you will see it's very poor in model etc. It works for me and at least for now it's a way to have AI instead of those random generic ones.

I think, not 100% sure though, it is somehow limited, I see usually around 5 different airlines in the airport sometimes 7. Though I really think it isn't letting the whole lot be down at once so it randomizes it and limits to what is down.

  • Yes, I have quite a lot so will check the *.cfg files. Thank you.

Out of the 70+ liveries I had for the A320 I had around only 20 which had the AI config. So I fixed it all up and did EVERY plane I had with its own unique real-life number ICAO which alot in the configs are wrong, such as people calling British Airways call_sign (BW) instead of SPEEDBIRD and now I have an awesome flight where ATC talks to real named airlines, numbers, ai, and everything. I may release it soon as I have also now included the 787, 747, A330, and all have unique AI working configs etc. Another thing I did was fixed up the configs where so many left important things out and many many many typos and mistakes. Pretty pleased with what I have done, took a lot of time though haha.

The models we used in FSX for AI had multiple LODs, so that the closer they got, the more detail you could see. The net result was that you could have a LOT more AI traffic flying around, and it didn't impact on you until and unless it all got close. Is this not possible in MSFS 2020?
