• Would you kindly spell out just what you mean by "XP garbage"? And "XP mods"?

    I can't / wpm/t vote on this until I can understand what I am voting for/against.

    Did you perhaps mean DirectX12?

  • Just putting my input here on flightsim.to going to support XP12, as many of you have already seen flightsim.to is going to support XP12 mods when XP12 releases. I may represent a minority by saying this, but I am disappointed and mad over this announcement considering this has been my number 1 place for downloading mods and uploading my own files (Currently 16 files with over 11,408 combined downloads). I am disappointed that they will be supporting XP12 for a few reasons, mainly that I don't want the main feed full of XP garbage, I don't want to pick through loads of XP mods to find the mods I was looking for, I don't want to accidentally install XP mods thinking they are for MSFS, the list goes on. The short of it is this: I don't want my personal number 1 mod site to be ruined with other mods. I ask the flightsim.to managers and admins to PLEASE make the XP mods on a new URL. Do not have them show up in the main MSFS feed and do not have them come up in MSFS searches. Please keep them 100% separate from each other.

Would be happy to hear others opinions regarding the topic in the comments and the poll.

None of the above. Many sites support multiple flight simulators, very successfully. I was once responsible for ProjectAI, and we supported several iterations of the one sim quite happily.

Other sites, such as Flightsim.com and Avsim cater for many flight simulators quite happily.

It's all down to how it is implemented.

For instance, mods for one sim are kept in a different library to those for another sim.

If the team here is willing to take it, it would be an ideal opportunity to split out xBox addons from PC addons for MSFS 2020 as well.

The Avsim model, which I favor, uses different fora for different aspect of a sim, but all fora for one sim are under a single Forum heading. What happens in one forum, for one simulator, doesn't reflect what's happening in another forum for a different simulator.

So, I can't answer with the options you've given, but would happily answer "yes" to an answer to the effect that I would be fine with XP12 cohabiting, provided they are in different libraries, and different forums. There's no need to change the current formula in terms of downloads etc, which works very well, and is a marked improvement on what Avsim has been stuck with even before the huge hardware failure that they suffered a few years ago. If it aint broken, don't fix it.

And if the powers that be decide, or have decided, not to split the libraries and forums, then I'll join you - it would be bedlam, and I really don't see them doing it if they want to thrive and expand.

  • Would prefer two seperate sites or at least two completely seperate areas. Cheers.

Check out the way they do it at Avsim https://www.avsim.com/forums/ (forums) and https://library.avsim.net/ (libraries) or at flightsim.com https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/forum.php (forums) and https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=displayviewsec . Factor in flightsim.to type graphics and layout and there is absolutely no reason why multiple flight simulators can't co-habit one site. Done this way, the only time you would even SEE reference to another flight simulator would be in the top most menus - everything else would be at a lower level, and if you chose to bookmark at the lower level, you probably only see the top level if you navigate to it.
